Two Simple Ways Resorts are Sharing the Transition from Summer to Winter

I completely love this time of year.

Every day on my way home from the office I’ve been taking what I call “the long way”, which is nothing more than a 4-ish mile detour up a winding, tree-lined road in Edwards.

The changing colors are easily noticed each day. Last week, there was even a ribbon on snow on the peaks above the top of the climb.

An Amazing Story
This happens every year at every resort in every state. It’s an awesome story no matter how many times we see it.

“So, Gregg, how are resorts telling this tale?” Well, my friend, I’m glad you asked.

Here are just two, simple ideas I’ve seen.

Jackson’s Countdown
Every day, Jackson Hole shares a new, beautiful picture on Instagram tagged with #JHdreaming and overlaid with a number.

For example.

Every image both provides compelling content for the day and nudges the pre-season stoke up a notch as they close in on opening day. They’ve also invited their followers to join in by using the hashtag and seeing their photos aggregated on the Jackson website.

Copper’s Mashups
There are endless ways to promote the changing seasons. With Tripp Fay’s slick photography, Copper Mountain has published three photos (with hopefully more to come) that tell the story.

Quickly and unique connecting the fun of summer with the anticipation of winter.

One shot summer, the same angle/location from winter, a little soft fade between the two and you’ve got a great piece of content that is unique, tells a relevant story, but doesn’t take terribly long to produce.

Great stuff.

About Gregg & SlopeFillers
I've had more first-time visitors lately, so adding a quick "about" section. I started SlopeFillers in 2010 with the simple goal of sharing great resort marketing strategies. Today I run marketing for resort ecommerce and CRM provider Inntopia, my home mountain is the lovely Nordic Valley, and my favorite marketing campaign remains the Ski Utah TV show that sold me on skiing as a kid in the 90s.
