I mentioned the other day I’d been reviewing my list of the most viewed resort YouTube videos from this last season.

As I went down the list you saw things like record snow, amazing events, a splash of comedy.

But what then I scrolled past a video that really had nothing to do with winter or skiing or snow.

Yeah, a video that was nothing more than a first-person perspective of Heavenly’s mountain coaster. Instantly, I started to look for explanations.

Was it boosted by being a pre-roll ad? Not that I can tell, at least not much. Videos used as ads have crazy low engagement (sometimes fewer than 1 rating per 100,000 views) but this had over 1,600 ratings and nearly all were positive.

Were my numbers in the database wrong? Nope, a quick click showed me the numbers were spot on. No matter how I sliced it, this simple video was in the top 10 most viewed non-pre-roll videos from last season.

And then, I remembered.

I remembered the Gatlinburg Mountain Coaster video I saw once that has 6,000,000 views:

A video of Revelstoke’s “Pipe” with nearly 4.5 million:

Or the one the resort uploaded that has nearly 600,000:

If you have a mountain coaster, this simple piece of content is one to consider.

It might take some post-upload keyword experimentation to get it right, it might take some nicer camera equipment / editing than you’re used to, it might take sharing regularly to get the ball rolling. Heck, it might even take inviting one of those coaster review YouTubers out to try it themselves to take advantage of their audience.

But if these (and dozens of other) videos are any indication, it’s absolutely worth giving a go.

About Gregg & SlopeFillers
I've had more first-time visitors lately, so adding a quick "about" section. I started SlopeFillers in 2010 with the simple goal of sharing great resort marketing strategies. Today I run marketing for resort ecommerce and CRM provider Inntopia, my home mountain is the lovely Nordic Valley, and my favorite marketing campaign remains the Ski Utah TV show that sold me on skiing as a kid in the 90s.
