I have always been intrigued by how trends in skier behavior follow and match one another.
It’s no life-changing question, but this time, I decided to look at Facebook engagement (PTAT) and compare it to Twitter engagement (retweets) for the last couple months. To get a similar number, the “RT count” of each point is actually a sum of retweets from the previous seven days.
Note, these graphs are not on the same scale (ie, there wasn’t equal numbers of RTs and PTAT), but overlaying the charts is pretty telling:
The short answer is YES, when RTs go up, PTAT goes up. When RTs go down, PTAT goes down and visa versa. When there is something worth getting excited about on Facebook, the enthusiasm is present in other arenas as well.
In a way, we can treat social media engagement like a “relevance thermometer”. By keeping an eye on engagment, we can make better timing decisions on messages in other channels.
About Gregg & SlopeFillers
I've had more first-time visitors lately, so adding a quick "about" section. I started SlopeFillers in 2010
with the simple goal of sharing great resort marketing strategies. Today I run marketing for resort ecommerce and CRM provider
Inntopia,
my home mountain is the lovely Nordic Valley,
and my favorite marketing campaign remains the Ski Utah TV show that sold me on skiing as a kid in the 90s.
