I’ve talked about the idea of doing things that don’t scale before. The concept is this: some of your biggest wins sometimes come from doing things that are 1-to-1 and could never be done for every person.
It’s a balance of seeing opportunities to make someone’s day and recognizing that may be the only person you can do that for.
But, man, the loyalty and word-of-mouth and karma that are earned from these sometimes simple, unplanned moments? They’re virtually impossible to measure, often because the upside can be so far reaching.
Another such example showed up recently from Sunlight Mountain Resort. I’ll let the thread below tell the story.
While enjoying an empty mountain powder day, he sent me this photo of his daughters atop the run called Zephyr: pic.twitter.com/jRB1UhbfuF

Well, unbeknownst to me, my colleague reached out to Sunlight Mountain to tell them I had a son named Zephyr and thought their trail sign was cool and it would look great in my son’s bedroom.

Sunlight put in the effort to make a replica sign and send it to us so my Zephyr could mount it in his bedroom. Needless to say, he was stoked! pic.twitter.com/sU5sMb66zT

It’s safe to say, Sunlight Mountain has a new No. 1 fan! We are so touched that this mountain would undergo such effort to make the day of a young future skier. We can’t wait to get there next season and ski the Zephyr run ourselves!

Huge thank you to my buddy, Jeff, and his daughters, for sending me the photo. To my colleague, Eric, for reaching out to Sunlight. And to Troy Hawks at Sunlight Mountain for doing something so kind and selfless to make a kid happy! This is why I love the ski community!

Troy has being doing some really smart, really savvy stuff at Sunlight since he took the reigns in 2015 and this is absolutely near the top.
Awesome stuff.
