Sun Valley. It’s on my to-visit list for a long list of reasons.

The motivation keep building in a rather significant way since I’ve been following their Searching for Sun Valley blog. Sometimes I feel resorts are guilty of overly wordy blog posts with too few photos. Sun Valley breaks that mold with some amazingly good content.

Searching for Sun Valley
Let me first share a few of the photos to illustrate the quality:

As you might have guessed from the photos, they cover everything from hot startups in the valley to classic events and locals with unique tales to tell.

I’m not sure of the distribution channels setup to push these narratives out to their target markets, but with content of this caliber, I’d take the bridle off and let ‘er loose.

What I Didn’t See
Lest you think I’ve been overwhelmed by awesomeness, let me say that I would love to see more CTAs and integrate the contest form below each post.

The contest form is short but on it’s own page. The posts are amazing, but don’t have any way to get them delivered to one’s inbox for example. I see no reason to not combine the two with a “Subscribe to enter our Sun valley vacation sweepstakes and get the next photo essay in your inbox.” Double the reasons to opt-in and let the reach of each subsequent post snowball with a growing subscriber base.

I also wouldn’t mind seeing it integrated direclty into the Visit Sun Valley site. Siloed projects are great for some goals, but I’m a big fan of the ability to seamlessly push visitors to the blog and back again from the main website.

Even as is, however, I love the quality of the photos, the size of the photos, the color of the text (so the focus in on the visual), and the quality of work overall. Really good stuff.

About Gregg & SlopeFillers
I've had more first-time visitors lately, so adding a quick "about" section. I started SlopeFillers in 2010 with the simple goal of sharing great resort marketing strategies. Today I run marketing for resort ecommerce and CRM provider Inntopia, my home mountain is the lovely Nordic Valley, and my favorite marketing campaign remains the Ski Utah TV show that sold me on skiing as a kid in the 90s.
