Inspiration
Another smart, virtual content concept from Diamond Resorts.

This week I’m gonna share some non-ski inspiration. Truth be told, ski is blowing me away with the creativity overall, but there are some other pockets out there I’ve come across.

One of the things I’ve been most impressed with is the ability to take traditional parts of the experiences we sell and make them virtual. Things like:

  • Concerts with local artists
  • End of season parties
  • Benefits and food drives

But I noticed something in an email from Diamond Resorts that I thought was a nice little extension of this idea.

They’ve got the virtual concert, true, but they have something else: a virtual chipping and putting tutorial with a PGA pro.

Good Stuff
I think this is a really smart bit of content.

First, it’s timely. Golf courses are starting to reopen and golfers are gonna knock the rust off those swings here before too long.

Second, it’s valuable. I’m not sure what a chipping tutorial with a PGA pro normally costs, but it usually isn’t free.

Third, it works great in a virtual format given our current situation. Find a carpeted hallway to follow along with the putting, walk outside to the backyard for the chipping portion.

Instead of just inspiring folks or getting them dreaming about golfing, it gives them a chance to actually do something.

Ski
There are a lot of places you could take this with ski (assuming you don’t offer golf at your resort):

  • How to tune/wax/etc your skis at home
  • Take folks on a nature walk with a tree identification tutorial
  • Summer sports (disc golf tips, running advice, etc.)

But looking beyond the concerts and such? A great source of marketing inspiration.

UPDATE: I also got this today right before it started to remind me to join (likely because I had opened and/or clicked the email). Another smart move for live events.

About Gregg & SlopeFillers
I've had more first-time visitors lately, so adding a quick "about" section. I started SlopeFillers in 2010 with the simple goal of sharing great resort marketing strategies. Today I run marketing for resort ecommerce and CRM provider Inntopia, my home mountain is the lovely Nordic Valley, and my favorite marketing campaign remains the Ski Utah TV show that sold me on skiing as a kid in the 90s.
