We have advanced purchase ticket deals. We have events. We have weather.

But we don’t have them in the same place.

I first brought up the possibility of these about two years ago when I mocked up a draft of a weekly snapshot of all these interrelated elements in one, simple widget.

Now, the idea lives and it’s a beauty thanks to the crews at Crotched and Dirigo.

Right on the Home Page
Here’s how it works.

When you land on the home page you see all those elements together right in a prime space of web real estate. By clicking on the arrows you get a snapshot of the weather for that day as well as live ticket prices from Crotched’s Liftopia CloudStore feed.

Click on the buy link and you’re taken right to the checkout page.

Simple as that.

The Big Potential
Hats off to the Dirigo crew for pulling this off, because while it looks simple, making this happens means that all those pieces have to be both accessible and portable.

But once that ice is broken, some really cool stuff can happen as you start bundling products by days rather than types.

  • Searching for lodging? Show ticket prices and events for those day.
  • On the event calendar? Show ticket prices and weather.
  • Have you added weather forecasts? Put tickets and events along side.

Once those pieces are built to move around, the possibilities become both endless and incredibly intriguing.

Great Direction
This is a step in a really, really great direction.

A direction where the elements that make up a day’s experience on the slopes aren’t promoted separately, but together. Where a great snow day and a great event day and a great pricing day combine forces to get more people to consider, buy, and ski.

I am very excited about the next iteration of this concept.

About Gregg & SlopeFillers
I've had more first-time visitors lately, so adding a quick "about" section. I started SlopeFillers in 2010 with the simple goal of sharing great resort marketing strategies. Today I run marketing for resort ecommerce and CRM provider Inntopia, my home mountain is the lovely Nordic Valley, and my favorite marketing campaign remains the Ski Utah TV show that sold me on skiing as a kid in the 90s.
