Chalk it up as one of the perks I never expected to have when I started SlopeFillers back in the day, but I gotta admit, it was fun to be one of the cool kids that got an advance copy of Chris Diamond’s new book.
I read it on the plane a couple months ago and learned more in the first four hours than I had in my first four years in ski.
Finally Happened
Over those years I’ve been running this site, I’ve often had people say:
“Hey, Gregg, you should do a big piece on the whole ASC story.”
“Gregg, you know what you should do? A round of interviews to recap Pass Wars back in the day.”
“You might as well devote an entire section of the sit to Ikon v Epic, Gregg.”
And you know what? They’re right. There’s just one problem.
Time
I just don’t have the time or the resources to make this happen.
All of these stories are so deep and so interconnected, they needed a storyteller with the connections, the experience, the perspective, the time, the resources, and a headstart on the knowledge required to pull it all together and tell it right.
After Chris’ first book, he realized that was him. And I couldn’t agree more. The book is a combination of:
And it’s really, really well done.
Just Read It
You probably didn’t need me to tell you this, but you should absolutely read this book.
None of us have seen this story unfold from every angle it is relevant to, but Chris gives us as close to that very thing as I think we’ll ever have.
Oh, and I love that SAM is distributing it. I sincerely hope that opens the door for more ski-specific books like this one.
About Gregg & SlopeFillers
I've had more first-time visitors lately, so adding a quick "about" section. I started SlopeFillers in 2010
with the simple goal of sharing great resort marketing strategies. Today I run marketing for resort ecommerce and CRM provider
Inntopia,
my home mountain is the lovely Nordic Valley,
and my favorite marketing campaign remains the Ski Utah TV show that sold me on skiing as a kid in the 90s.
