I don’t even know what to say about this one but I had to share. The close up head shots of skiers with a one or two word self-narration, the neon “Tron” like lettering and outlines, the slow motion of two skiers getting at least 10″ off the ground: my how skiing has changed.

The thing is, I have no doubt that this commercial was a rockstar in it’s time. If it looked plain and generic and worry but it fit. It makes me step back and ask what elements of our marketing will look out-dated in a few years. You can already tell a snowboarder today from a snowboarder 5-6 years ago from the width of their stance alone, not to mention their clothing.

Will film burn transitions and pole mount POV shots look as silly to us as the head shots of the 80’s? Only time will tell, but I can’t wait to see :)

About Gregg & SlopeFillers
I've had more first-time visitors lately, so adding a quick "about" section. I started SlopeFillers in 2010 with the simple goal of sharing great resort marketing strategies. Today I run marketing for resort ecommerce and CRM provider Inntopia, my home mountain is the lovely Nordic Valley, and my favorite marketing campaign remains the Ski Utah TV show that sold me on skiing as a kid in the 90s.
