The length of resort seasons has been celebrated and discussed and touted in a dozen ways.

  • The longest season in ____
  • The king of spring
  • Race to Open
  • First to Open, Last to Close
  • Ski Until ________

Typically the #racetoopen, with its impending wave of pent-up demand, gets most of the love. And so being, it also has some fun rivalries built in. The most notable being Arapahoe Basin and Loveland (soon to be challenged by Keystone and Breck).

Rivalry Perks
I love a good rivalry. And so do millions of other people. It gives a little more meaning to a typically normal event. It gives those loyal to one side of the other an extra reason to participate. When lots of people are doing the same thing, it helps you break through the noise of the rest.

For those reasons and many more, I love what Boyne and Bohemia are doing this year.

Right now, resorts everywhere are closing. But even with bonus weekends and pond skims and you name it, this stands out.

Rivalry + Good Cause + Simplicity
This is such a smart, fun little campaign.

It builds into the season a bit of a friendly rivalry with another resort, the fact that it’s for a good cause makes it more likely to get through folks’ marketing filters, and they’ve kept it super simple so even a few small wins as a result make this more than worth it.

Really good stuff.

About Gregg & SlopeFillers
I've had more first-time visitors lately, so adding a quick "about" section. I started SlopeFillers in 2010 with the simple goal of sharing great resort marketing strategies. Today I run marketing for resort ecommerce and CRM provider Inntopia, my home mountain is the lovely Nordic Valley, and my favorite marketing campaign remains the Ski Utah TV show that sold me on skiing as a kid in the 90s.
