What is skiing?

Gregg Blanchard   /

As a marketer, one of the biggest struggles I have had with new clients or at a new job is knowing, really knowing, the product. Not just what it DOES, and not just what it does FOR people, but what it really is doing for them on a deeper, personal level. For example, the “get rich quick” industry has this nailed. They know that more than a solid income, even more than lots of money, people REALLY want the lifestyle they dream of.

So, my question to you is: what is skiing…really?
In one word, how would you describe what this simple, elegant sport is to YOU?

All submissions will be added to this post with a link to your site, so let’s see if we can get a list of what skiing REALLY is. I’ll start:

Skiing is CAREFREE.
Generally I cannot escape the thoughts of work, family and life in general. But when my board hits the snow, everything is put aside and I am carefree.

Skiing is HAPPINESS.
Happiness is “a state of mind or feeling characterized by contentment, love, satisfaction, pleasure, or joy”. Add some good friends and a cold tasty beverage and that about sums it up for me.

Skiing is RELIEF.
Whatever may be on my mind or bothering me seems to disappear after I drop in…even if it is only temporary!

Skiing is INDEPENDENCE.
Independence from work, from school, from everything stress-full. When I ski i am in a zone of bliss and freedom, I rely on myself to get down the hill, and the only thing that matters at that time is skiing. Skiing to me is independence.

Skiing is FREEDOM.
Freedom from worries and real life. When I’m on a lift ride up, my only concern is which line I’ll take down.
