There are a handful of video series that resorts are pushing out right now. Initially, I wanted to round up all of them into an collection showing the different styles and approaches marketing teams are taking they they serialize their stories through the seasons.
But there’s one that stood out. It carried all the same storytelling elements, but it did so in a package that just…I dunno…worked. It’s not new, but it’s one that stands out in my feed.
That series is Mt Bachelor’s Just Northwest of Normal. Here’s are a this year’s first three episodes.
Let’s dig into a few unique aspects of this series that I found especially effective.
First, each one doesn’t over complicate the narrative. They’ve poked around until they’ve found that one core thing that ties this person to the mountain and fuels their love for Mt Bachelor and they’ve focused almost solely on that.
And when I say focus, I mean it. There’s almost no other fluff. They’re building up that person’s relationship to the resort, highlighting a moment (or two) around that relationship, and they’re done. I love this. You don’t always need 10-20 minutes to tell a good story. Mt Bachelor is doing it in 1-2.
Most of all, I love the quality of the visuals. This is one benefit of keeping these edits so short. They can use all their best shots without having to resort to much filler. And the quality of the images? Extremely impressive.
It’s not as easy I make it sound – brevity is often harder than longer narratives – but I appreciate how Mt Bachelor is keeping this series focused and clean.
Interesting perspectives, told beautifully, in easy-to-consume packages, with no fluff or reason to click away. Attention spans are a thing and the marketing team is ensuring that even if they can only hold someone’s focus for a couple of minutes they’re still getting their message across.
Keep ’em coming.
