Sierra-at-Tahoe Rides the End-of-World Wave with a Clever “Day After” Promotion
“As a lover of simplicity, I like to highlight resort marketing that is both effective but incredibly simple in execution. This is one of those examples.”
“Party like there’s no Ta-Maya”
That was the headline for Sierra’s “The Mayans Missed It Celebration” that, thanks to the world still existing on December 22, 2012, was about able to go down without a hitch.
A simple way to ride a wave of buzz around an event that, barring some serious miscalculations by a few billion people, was sure not to happen.
I love it. The simplicity, the sarcasm, the snarkiness built right into the name were perfect ingredients for a fun headline at many a local news outlet and a good time ready to be had for all.
