A while back I suggested that small ski areas should stop fretting over website costs and simply install WordPress (free) with one of a few themes ($70) on some basic hosting ($20/mo) and call it good.
While I stand by that idea, I hope resorts realize the power of WordPress for larger, more robust sites as well. Even a managed WordPress hosting setup could handle any resort’s website traffic demands (and then some) for less than $70 a month…total.
So, what resorts are already using WordPress as their free CMS of choice? Well, I’m glad you axed. Here’s a few of my favorites:
Moonlight Basin
http://www.moonlightbasin.com/
Est monthly uniques: 5,000
Red Lodge
http://www.redresort.com/
Est monthly uniques: 13,000
Timberline
http://www.timberlinelodge.com/
Est monthly uniques: 15,000
Appalachian
http://www.appskimtn.com/
Est monthly uniques: 12,500
Angelfire
http://www.angelfireresort.com/
Est monthly uniques: 17,500
A free CMS with loads of free support, tutorials, and plugins that can handle many times the volume of even the busiest resort websites? Not a bad thing to look into.
About Gregg & SlopeFillers
I've had more first-time visitors lately, so adding a quick "about" section. I started SlopeFillers in 2010
with the simple goal of sharing great resort marketing strategies. Today I run marketing for resort ecommerce and CRM provider

my home mountain is the lovely Nordic Valley,
and my favorite marketing campaign remains the Ski Utah TV show that sold me on skiing as a kid in the 90s.
