It’s one of those weeks where my backlog of things I want to write about is longer than the time I have to write about them, so today is going to be another 3-part recap of some creative summer campaigns I’ve seen rolling out the last few weeks.

1. Big Sky Drone Timelapse

We’ve seen resort video quality increase in leaps and bounds in recent years. Every time someone like Jackson Hole uploads, for example, I’m tempted to write a post about some element that’s both novel but also incredibly well done. Big Sky is right up there at the top as well, but they’re also the ones behind some of the best lift construction update videos I’ve seen. Well, they just dropped a new gondola update edit that is really impressive.

The music, camera movement, image quality? All top notch. But the creative use of drone footage flown on a similar path throughout the day to create a sort of timelapse effect? That’s really, really clever and a cool innovation I’d never seen.

2. Boyne’s PRIME Deal

The word Prime has a bit more usage now than in years past. And, thanks to Amazon’s Prime Days, both this usage and folks’ interest in it spiked a few weeks ago in ways similar to Black Friday in November. With so much momentum around a word there were a few resorts who cleverly piggybacked on this attention with posts on social, but Boyne was the only one I saw who went bigger with a 4-part email series offering a big discount on a combination of their summer activities.

I love that they both capitalized on this idea but also spread it out and give it a little more time to breath by sending their first email on July 8 (when Prime Day started) and the last on July 15 (four days after it ended). Also, I still love the clean simplicity of those Boyne email templates. So sharp looking.

3. Mountain Creeks’ Animated GIFs

Speaking of email, a handful of resorts use animated GIFs on the regular – usually in the form of a slideshow in their hero image – but Mountain Creek has been creating a few concepts that are really helping them stand out in the inbox. For example, a moving border on a recent offer…

A tearaway style design they’ve used throughout the summer for Triple Play promotions…

And just putting video of some of their best summer activities in a GIF to give the header of their email a ton of visual impact…

A little movement in an email goes a long way and I think the team at Mountain Creek have used this old tech really cleverly to give their emails a boost.

About Gregg & SlopeFillers
I've had more first-time visitors lately, so adding a quick "about" section. I started SlopeFillers in 2010 with the simple goal of sharing great resort marketing strategies. Today I run marketing for resort ecommerce and CRM provider Inntopia, my home mountain is the lovely Nordic Valley, and my favorite marketing campaign remains the Ski Utah TV show that sold me on skiing as a kid in the 90s.
